1893 – In the beginning
The two brothers Carl and Wilhelm Gislow begin manufacturing rubber products in Gislaved in southern Sweden.
1905 – No. 1
Gislaved produces Sweden‘s first car tire.
1927 – A milestone
The first Volvo rolls off the production line - on Gislaved tires. Gislaved becomes Volvo‘s Original Equipment manufacturer. Production increases tenfold.
1949 – An anniversary
Forty-four years after the first Gislaved tire was produced, the one millionth tire leaves the factory.
1970 – Expansion
Annual sales volume rises to approx. 1.3 million car tires. Alongside Sweden, the most important sales markets are Japan, North America and Canada.
1983 – Specialisation
The tire production division becomes an independent company – Gislaved Däck AB is formed.
1985 – Further growth
Gislaved takes over Viking Deck A/S Tires.
1987 – The merger
Together Gislaved and Viking Tires form Nivis Tyre AB.
1992 – The partner
Nivis Tyre is taken over by Continental AG, Europe‘s second-largest tire manufacturer. Co-operation with this powerful partner provides the Gislaved brand with optimum development and production facilities.
1994 – Distribution
The Continental corporation initiates its multi-brand distribution – with Gislaved benefiting from the co-ordinated brand appearance within the multi-brand strategy. Gislaved also becomes the specialist brand for Nordic winter tires in the Continental corporation.
2007 – Volume
Approximately 2.6 million Gislaved tires are sold each year worldwide.
